Merry Christmas!

This is a painting I did for my father-in-law. It's Santa's reindeer and sleigh waiting for Santa. It was a lot of fun to do.

Done in Painter X with a Wacom tablet.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Judge me by my size, do you?

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

This is a fast painting of Yoda. And It's my birthday!!! :) So can paint what I want.

Two things I like

This is just one example that shows what really matters most in my life at the age of 4 and half. Drawing, and a 9 piece Chicken McNugget. Nothing has changed.
I was really into drawing cartoon birds, turtles, and elephants.
Now back to non-art related homework. :(

Digital Paintovers

So, lately I've been doing some photo manipulations in between my homework. Really, I was just excited about the new season of AMC's The Walking Dead. These are the before and after pictures. They were all done in Corel Painter X with a Wacom tablet. The top one is my dad, the next one is my father-in-law (his blue tooth device got out of control), and the last is me.
Happy Halloween!! :)

Gallery of Terror 2012

I submitted this to the UVU Illustration Gallery of Terror 2012. It's just for fun. I used the Sharp Chalk brush in Corel Painter X.

Happy Halloween!

Mascot Bowl 2012 and a Monster

I did a really quick one for the Mascot Bowl this year. It has also been published on the Utah Jazz official website. I thought it turned out Ok. I left a lot of space for the mascots to add their John Hancocks.
Here are some screen shots from the website as well

That's SO cool!

Also, a new commission for a sports logo. It's for a batting cage instructor. Here are the rough idea sketches.

And the possible final. There might be some changes. This was done in adobe Illustrator.

Enjoy!

Moving on

This is what I've been doing since the last time I posted.
Just one new sketchbook drawing since last time. And the 3rd Batman movie was pretty good too.

A cartoon version of my brother Paul. He really likes the Seth MacFarlane cartoons.

A paint over of teeth. Look Mom no braces!

The last assignment in my design class this semester. Good bye SLCC!!!!! :)

I no longer work full time. Good bye Library. It was fun, but time to move on.

And starting tomorrow I will be going to Utah Valley University full time.  I'm going to study illustration. I'm pretty excited, because I'm half way done! It's taken a lot of hard work to get to this point. :D

Sketch book # 2

These are the most recent sketches that I've done in my sketch book. For some reason they have been turning out a lot better lately. The top one is a VW Bug. It's kind of a mix between the car in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Cars.
The next one is of Freddie Mercury. My wife and I watched a Youtube video of him performing at Wembley stadium in 1985. It's one entertaining video. If you like the sound of Queen and messed up teeth, watch this video.
Lately, I've been taking pictures with my phone and then drawing them. It's a lot of fun! I'll probably do more. The last two are of my wife and her brother’s new baby. And the other one is my nephew. He loves The Amazing Spider-man.

sketches

I bought a much better sketchbook a couple of months ago. It is great! It's nothing like the crappy one I bought from the community college. Here are most of what I have in there now. These are from May and June. I'm trying out the white gel pen for highlights. I think I might have gone overboard with it already, but I'm still trying it out. I got the idea for the different sketchbook and the gel pen from Kevin Keele's blog. He is an amazing artist! His drawing skill level is far beyond mine and his sketching style is very inspiring to me, as you can see here.
Since this is a new sketchbook I wanted to have some specific goals with it. Some of the goals are:
  • No floating heads
  • No incomplete drawings
  • Commit to one drawing at a time
  • Date the drawing when finished
  • A lot more figure drawing from life

Speed Painting and a Tank

A while back I joined a cool art blog devoted to speed painting. It's very challenging for me. The rules are: no use of the eyedropper, and you have to stop after 30 min. It's great practice. I'd like to thank Heather for letting me join her cool blog. These are mostly from cartoon backgrounds done in the 30 minutes.

And on a different subject, here is a tank. I'm sick of it for now, so I will post it.
and with color

It's a Trap!!!

We did some spring cleaning the other day. We both went through a lot of stuff to see what we could throw away. I came across a pencil drawing I did back in 1999. It's really not the greatest drawing. I really don't know what I was thinking. I did it before the movie came out. The problem is I've kept it over the years for some reason. I'm never going to hang it up, but I don't want to trash it. So since it's May The Fourth, I've scanned it and will post it here. And it will stay here like Han Solo in carbonite. I've also lowered the DPI to save anyone from viewing its full potential. The original will stay rolled up and stored somewhere. Sigh...
Anyways, here is my brother and nephew at the safety kids fair. They always get their picture taken with the Star Wars characters when they go. And for some reason they always throw random characters in the picture. I think that's lame.
So I made it better.

No one wants a random rebel in the picture. Who does this guy think he is? So I took him out and made my brother as evil as he can get. :)

The best part about this post is scrolling back and forth between these two pics. I also think my nephew has the right idea about how to hold a Jedi weapon.

And one more thing.

My brother is a fan of a show that I will not mention here. We had a discussion about if the Star Wars world collided with this certain show, I think this would probably happen.

New Sketchbook!

Finally! I have a new sketchbook!!! The old one I was filling up was falling apart. It was getting in such bad shape, I took it over to kinko's to have them put a ring binding on it! I, after a very long time, have finished it! I can't wait to start my new one.
So here are some sketches from my old one. They're kinda lazy. I should do better with this new one.

and this one just for fun!
John Carter WAS AWESOME!!!!!
